【Summer School Report】 GCOE-INeT International Summer School 2011


"Understanding coupled natural and social systems; Feedback loops between land-use and ecosystem change"

Date: June. 27th to July 8th、2011 Venue: Hokkaido University, Tomakomai Experimental Forest

Objectives: Human transformation of ecosystem and landscape are the largest sources of global, regional and local environment changes, affecting the ability of the biosphere to sustain life. Understanding coupled natural and social systems are key challenges for scientists to deliver the scientific insights and suggestions to develop the sustainable society under the changing global economy and environment. This summer school provides unique opportunities for Ph D international and Japanese students to learn field research and analytical methods. Students will discuss current research findings and explore future directions for various research topics on the social and natural interaction including the feedbacks between land-use and ecosystem changes. The main aim of the program is to encourage the participants to develop future research proposal that include international perspectives.
